In March 2009, I decided I was tired of feeling icky all the time. I went to see Todd at Clintwood Healthy U. Based on the conversation we had, he determined that I was "headed for Type 2 diabetes." I was shocked and asked what I could do. He told me about this program that had the potential to change my life. It was called First Line Therapy. He said it was like physical therapy for my life. I decided to give it a shot. Am I glad I did!
Although it was very hard at the beginning (I gave up caffeine, sugar, and processed foods) I awoke the 4th morning refreshed! It took some time, but I have relearned how to eat. It amazes me that I have been eating for the last 34 years without knowing how it affected me. I have a wheat sensitivity that I never knew about. Yeah, I knew I had spent most of my life with upper respiratory issues, but never connected it with what I ate.
My 5-6 small meals each day include protein, steamed or fresh veggies, a bit of dairy, nuts, good oils like extra virgin olive and canola, and a starch. My exercise consists of a 30-40 minute (almost) daily walk and some weights. The changes have been pretty amazing! I've lost 70 pounds and dropped 4 sizes in pants. My hips are now smaller than my waist was when I started. I have more energy - and more sass! I never thought I could change my life, but thanks to First Line Therapy, I have.
It wasn't until I decided to do something for me that I was able to lose the weight.
